WILLIAM BRICKELL

William Brickell (May 22, 1817 – January 14, 1908) joined co-founder of the city of Miami, Florida With Julia Tuttle. As a Miami pioneer Brickell and his wife, Mary, moved to South Florida from Cleveland, Ohio, in 1871, and settled on the south bank of the Miami River, where they opened a trading post and post office. He owned large tracts of land extending to Coconut Grove and laid out a wide avenue leading south from the river.
